Tanzanite 101 with ICA president Benjamin Hackman

Tanzanite, the blue variety of the mineral zoisite, commands a great deal of attention for its beauty and rarity. Demand for this natural gemstone has been growing in recent years, particularly from China. Here, Hackman talks about the features, value and availability of tanzanite and how is it different from sapphires in an interview at the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem and Pearl Show in March 2014.

ICA China Special Task Force Chairman Yu Xiaojin talks about the Colored Gemstone Market (in Mandarin Chinese)

The inaugural Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show hosted more than 1,500 exhibitors and 29,000 visitors this year. The promotional video features the profiles of several exhibitors and a brief discussion on the colored gemstone market.  Towards the end of the video, Yu noted that in addition to ruby, sapphires and emerald, tanzanite, (red) spinels and tsavorite are also nabbing a lot of attention in China.
